Cleaning TIPS for waxed bags and backpacks
- First, give the bag a good shake to remove all the dust.
- Then, with a soft brush, lightly scrub the areas that are dirty, avoiding the
areas where there are zippers or pieces of leather. - In the first stage, try to clean it with plain cold water. In case the stains do not go away, you can use a small amount of some mild soap (not detergent) and this, always in combination with cold water.
- Finally, let your bag dry naturally.
- If it is dirty enough and all of the above doesn’t work, you can contact a dry cleaner informing them about the material of the bag.
- We do not recommend the use of a washing machine, hot water and strong detergents as they will most likely damage the wax (waterproofing) of the bag and distort the leather.
It is important to know that waxed backpacks and bags can be re-waxed. This
process refreshes and renews the bag. Usually, waxing can follow a cleaning to restore the fabric to its former condition and to give it back its characteristics.
Waxed fabrics are a very special choice for bag materials. The natural waxing of the
fabric gives it waterproof properties and greatly increases its durability. These are
materials that, with good care, withstand time and “age,” giving character to the
bag.
For waxing your Burban bag, you can contact us directly or a specialist in your area.
The cost of waxing is €15.00 (including shipping to and from us at our expense).
Few more tips
Do not wash the waxed canvas too often. Waxed canvas bags look better the more you use them, while the scratches and marks they collect over time add character.
The waxed canvas has the following features.
- It is quite durable and adapts to weather conditions (it hardens in the cold
and softens in the heat). - They can withstand hard use
- The wax coating (waterproofing) wears off after some years of systematic use.
- There is the option of re-waxing the fabric, which refreshes the bag and
extends its lifespan. - With good use and occasional maintenance, you can use waxed backpacks for
many years.
